Making It Big was founded in 1984. Within several years, the demand for our product grew beyond the reach our little store in Northern California. From there the company grew into a small catalog business and continued to steadily serve faithful repeat customers into the 1990's. In 2000 Making it Big began offering our exclusive product line via our online store as well. We closed our retail store to focus the business on serving our catalog and website customer, reaching 20,000 plus buyers worldwide. We now have customers in every state and over 30 countries including; Canada, Great Britain, Australia, Argentina, Denmark, France, Greece, Ireland, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Puerto Rico, and Africa, to name a few. We are honored to be serving such a diverse group of women worldwide.

In 2003, Tracy Amiral became General Manager of Making It Big. Tracy has over 20 years catalog experience with such companies as Biobottoms, SelfCare, and Athleta. She was so impressed with the employees, the products and the customers that she bought the business in 2004. Making it Big has 20+ employees, several who have been with the company over 14 years. The employees are the heart and soul of our company; every one of us is passionate and committed to offering the best high quality product and outstanding customer service to our wonderful customers.

In 2016, we were very excited to change our name to On the Plus Side by Making it Big! Why "On the Plus Side"? Our new name was an easy choice because we are ONLY focused on providing the best fit and quality for the plus size woman. We care that YOU feel good inside and out. Everything we do is designed with the plus size woman in mind.

We produce 4 seasonal catalogs (with monthly updates) a year and offer over 300 items in our catalog and on our website. Our goal is to be a complete fashion clothing source for plus size women size 1X to 8X. With the continued support of our long time customers and now all of our new shoppers, we are surely on the right track. We are confident that Making It Big will be around for a long, long time. Making It Big specializes in quality fashion clothing made from a variety of natural fibers designed exclusively to fit women in traditional sizes 20 - 48. We are unique in that we design and produce all our own patterns to our exacting specifications. Unlike any other company, we have our own unique sizing system designed exclusively for plus size women which runs from 1X to 8X. Over 50% of our products are offered in natural fiber fabrics and we produce 50% of our line in the USA. For our garment dyed styles we use fiber reactive dyes, which have the least impact on our environment. One of our main goals is to reduce our carbon footprint. In order to do so, we print our catalog on paper from a sustainable forest, which is also makes no chemical impact.
